Hey there! I’m Isabella…

…but you can also call me Bella, and I’m a graphic designer currently based in Southern California. I am graduating from Chapman University in the spring of 2024 with a BFA in Graphic Design and a minor in Film Production Design. I’m very eager and open to creative opportunities that can help me grow as a designer and make meaningful material for the public.

If you are interested in learning more about my design philosophy, check out the video below! Outside of my passion for art and design, you’ll find me at an alt/rock concert, watching a 2000s romcom, or reading a fantasy novel.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

Design should ignite a passion for change and creativity in our souls. How can it do this? Through storytelling. Creating a story or message and transporting the viewer or consumer into a developed world or brand is essential in all aspects of art and design. Stories are a way to share new voices and ideas, create imagination and wonder, as well as pathos in people.

As an avid reader, I love the immersive qualities just words can cause. The same can be said about design with graphics. I aspire to be as creative as the design team MinaLima who visually designed the world of Harry Potter from the book pages. I find myself playing the narrator of a visual story, similar to Spielberg or del Toro, deciding where my actors and camera will go to shoot the best scene for the most memorable final cut. I’m moving and making elements that will come together to tell a story. If design tells a strong story, the emotional impact will be more significant and can lead to change, even subtly. If I can make someone crack a smile or view a subject matter in a new way, then my design has succeeded.

My design process is a story in itself. With clients, I uncover their brand story and discover where they’ve come from but also where they’re going next. As a consumer myself, I imagine how I would want to see the final design differently in something like a store display or online advertisement. How would I want to be emotionally moved by design? I aim for my final product to be more than a design. It should set a scene and relay a message, such as stir social change, for entertainment value or personal development. I use storytelling to my advantage because I find that it’s the best tool for creating an impactful design.

As a graphic designer, film production designer, and creative individual overall, I’m passionate about using my skills for good. By telling stories and giving more substance to my design work, I can benefit, include and influence more people.
